So this one time… a bug stepped on me

I am not blessed with the gift of ample amounts of free time, so this post is going to be a quickie. Bow chicka wah wah.

Walking back from class this morning, I  was abruptly snapped from my stupor by a young boy violently stomping the life out of some type of large bug. My first thought was something along the lines of, “why the hell is he doing that in public?” My second thought was, “What the hell is it with people and killing bugs unnecessarily?” We need to love our earth and everything on it. It doesn’t make any sense to go around killing things in their natural habitat. Do the outdoors belong to you? No. It’s more the bug’s than it is yours. Ass face.

Don't hate! Appreciate!

Don't hate! Appreciate!

Bugs have had a bad name since people realized there were these creepy crawlies on the planet. Sure, they’re not very cute and cuddly, but they can’t help that they evolved into a vastly ugly species. It’s just the way it goes. That doesn’t give humans the right to crush the crap out of them just because they walked by one and went, “eek!” Grow a pair and continue walking by. Here comes the oh so famous line, but really, what did they do to you? Bees sting, some spiders bite (and kill), and fleas itch, but it’s all a survival mechanism. Without doing these things they would probably die out as fast as you can say, splat.

Here comes my next cliched argument. The next time you walk by a bug, don’t kill it just because it looks gross. They are living things as well, and what would you do if there were giant bugs and insects running around stomping on humans just because they didn’t like the way we looked or we grossed them out? I know some of you are probably sitting there thinking, “YA, BUT LIKE, THAT WOULD SO LIKE NEVER HAPPEN.” Okay, so maybe that’s true, but I’ll leave you with this nice little stat. It will either make you think, “good, so I can kill as many as I want,” or it will make you realize that they must be doing something right, so let’s just let them be and do their thang.

The estimated ratio of insects to humans is 200 million to 1 with 40 million insects per acre of land.

P.S. I have personally made it common truth that mosquitoes, on the other hand, besides being food, have absolutely zero purpose save for death, destruction, and disease. Call me a hypocrite, but kill away.
